The Sony PXW-FX9 XDCAM 6K Full-Frame Camera System features an oversampled 6K Exmor R CMOS sensor designed for DCI 4K, UHD, and HD internal recording. Utilizing a stainless steel E-mount, the system provides cinematic depth of field and a wider angle of view compared to Super 35mm sensors. The camera offers 15+ stops of dynamic range and a Dual Base ISO of 800/4000, extending up to 102,400 for low-light performance.

Operational features include a 7-stop electronic variable ND filter (1/4 to 1/128) with auto and manual modes, and a Fast Hybrid AF system utilizing 561 phase-detection points covering approximately 94% of the frame. The AF system includes facial detection and adjustable transition speeds and shift sensitivity levels. For stabilization, internal gyroscopic metadata allows for post-production shake compensation via Sony Catalyst software.

Internal recording supports 10-bit 4:2:2 XAVC-I, XAVC-Long, and MPEG HD formats to dual XQD slots. Available frame rates range from 1 to 60 fps. The default S-Cinetone color science provides a soft, vivid tonal look consistent with the Sony VENICE. Audio is handled via 4-channel recording with independent control dials.

Connectivity and professional I/O include 12G/6G-SDI and HDMI for 4K output, 3G-SDI for HD monitoring, and Genlock/Timecode for multicamera synchronization.
