The Sony FX6 is a compact full-frame cinema camera featuring a 10.2 MP Exmor R back-illuminated sensor and BIONX XR engine, designed to deliver 15+ stops of dynamic range and high sensitivity with a base ISO of 800 and a high-gain mode of 12,800 (expandable to 409,600). Part of the Sony Cinema Line, it shares color science with the VENICE and FX9, utilizing S-Cinetone, S-Log3, and HLG gammas to ensure seamless intercutting and high-quality 10-bit 4:2:2 internal XAVC-I recording.

The system incorporates Fast Hybrid AF with 627 focal plane phase-detection points, supporting Real-time Eye AF and Face Detection. An integrated electronically variable ND filter provides smooth manual or automated density adjustments from 1/4 to 1/128 without altering depth of field. For high-speed acquisition, the FX6 supports up to 120p in 4K and 240p in HD, with firmware v1.10 enhancing Slow & Quick Motion options for RAW and XAVC-I workflows.

Professional I/O includes a 12G/6G/3G-SDI port supporting 16-bit RAW output, HDMI, timecode, and 4-channel audio recording via dual XLR inputs, an MI shoe, and a built-in handle mic. The modular magnesium alloy chassis weighs under 2 lb and features a 3.5" touchscreen LCD for rapid menu access. Dual media slots accommodate both CFexpress Type A and SDXC UHS-II cards, with CFexpress required for the highest frame rate modes.

Compared to the FX9, the FX6 offers higher maximum ISO, more robust high-speed frame rates, and more versatile media options, while omitting genlock and a second SDI port. It also generates gyroscopic metadata compatible with Sony Catalyst software for post-production stabilization.
