The new RED V-RAPTOR 8K VV launches the DSMC3 platform, introducing a 35.4MP full-frame sensor with 17+ stops of dynamic range and a multi-format workflow ranging from 8K VV to 6K Super35, down to 2K. Despite using a rolling shutter, the readout speed is doubled compared to the MONSTRO sensor, minimizing motion artifacts and enabling phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). The camera integrates an RF mount with a locking ring, a fixed OLPF, and a new right-side user interface with physical buttons dedicated to camera assistants.

The power system relies on 98Wh Micro-V batteries (RED/Core SWX), maintaining a compact footprint while ensuring approximately one hour of runtime. For storage, the V-RAPTOR adopts CFexpress 2.0 Type B cards, with certified support for RED/Angelbird 660GB and 1.3TB capacities. The I/O section features two independent 12G-SDI outputs and a USB Type-C port for streaming up to 1080p.

In terms of performance, the camera reaches 120 fps in 8K 17:9, 198 fps in 6K S35, and up to 600 fps in 2K 2.4:1. The 16-bit REDCODE Raw workflow is simplified into HQ, MQ, and LQ settings, with data rates between 180 and 360 MB/s. The DSMC3 body implements an enhanced cooling system with dual intake valves for improved thermal management (TEC).

The DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0" LCD monitor completes the setup with a 1920 x 1200 panel, 1300 cd/m² brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The display interfaces via a direct Pogo mount or a locking USB Type-C connector for video, data, and power delivery, integrating SmallHD PageOS software for total control of camera parameters.
