The Canon EOS C70 integrates Cinema EOS video capabilities into a compact, mirrorless-style body featuring a Super35 Dual Gain Output (DGO) sensor. The DGO system captures up to 16+ stops of dynamic range by combining two gain readings per photodiode, prioritizing saturation in highlights and noise reduction in shadows. Powered by the DIGIC DV7 image processor, the camera supports DCI 4K recording up to 60 fps, 4K 120 fps in UHD, and 180 fps in cropped 2K/Super16 modes. It is the first Cinema EOS model with an RF mount, enabling native use of high-performance RF glass and compatibility with EF lenses via the EF-EOS R 0.71x adapter, which provides a one-stop aperture boost and Super35 format conversion.

Professional operational features include unlimited recording, a motorized ND filter unit offering up to 10 stops of density, and a BNC timecode I/O port. The autofocus system utilizes Dual Pixel CMOS AF with the new EOS iTR AF X deep-learning head-tracking algorithm. Monitoring and control are handled via a 3.5" Direct Touch Control LCD, allowing for rapid adjustments of ISO, gain, and iris. For handheld stability, the C70 employs Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) with coordinated control when paired with RF lenses. It also introduces auto-ISO and auto-gain functions for seamless transitions between varying lighting environments.

Internal recording is managed through dual SD card slots supporting XF-AVC (Intra and Long GOP) and MP4 formats in 10-bit 4:2:2. Workflow optimization is supported through simultaneous recording of different formats, proxy files, and .cube 3D LUT support. Gamma options include Canon Log 2 and Log 3, alongside PQ and HLG HDR outputs. Connectivity is provided via one HDMI Type-A port, dual mini-XLR audio inputs with phantom power, a 3.5mm mic input, and a USB Type-C port for control or streaming. The ergonomic design includes a built-in grip with a 1/4"-20 thread for vertical 9x16 capture and a detachable handle unit.
